Hidden away on a grand country estate in the heart of the Lake District, this traditional Lakeland stone house makes for the perfect rural escape. With private grounds leading straight to the shores of Derwentwater and surrounded by the majestic fells of Borrowdale, Skiddaw and Blencathra, the stunning scenery will help you relax and unwind. Rosetrees, built in the nineteenth century, has recently been refurbished, bringing it right up to date with modern conveniences while preserving beautiful period features.

Inside the house

Step into the house from the sweeping driveway and you’ll find yourself in the grand entrance hall. There’s a formal dining room off the hall on one side and stairs down to the kitchen on the other. You’ll also find a large cloakroom which is perfect for muddy boots and waterproofs after a day exploring the fells. The kitchen is one of the rooms that’s had a real update in the refurbishment and you’ll find a large electric range cooker, a huge American-style fridge and a double dishwasher, perfect for catering for large groups. Head downstairs again and you’ll find a games room with bean bags, table football and a TV.

Head upstairs and you’ll find the spacious lounge with beautiful views over the lake. There are six bedrooms in total, each with its own bathroom. There are four double rooms and two super-king rooms which can be made up into twins if required. All the rooms are elegantly furnished with modern amenities while showing off their Victorian heritage. Beautiful polished pitch pine floors, chandeliers and fireplaces all add a touch of grandeur to the house.

The Outdoors

There is also a private outdoor space for guests to enjoy when the sun comes out. There are lawns and gardens and a patio with outdoor furniture and a barbecue. Enjoy dinner outside overlooking the lake or take your morning coffee out to the patio and watch the mist rising from the lake. Stroll through the estate’s grounds right down to Lake Derwentwater. If you have a small sailboat, kayak or canoe, the Lingholm Estate has its own slipway. Rosetrees is perfectly located to explore the Lake District, with countless walking routes to tackle and with Keswick, Borrowdale and Ambleside all nearby, there’s plenty to explore.
