The island of Costaérès fulfils every expectation of a holiday in Brittany. This is one of the most beautiful castle islands in Europe. The island offers two sandy beaches and a romantic rocky coastline. Lovers of nature will find themselves in awe of the over 200 different trees, shrubs and flower species, despite the exposed position and the sea salt-laden air. The castle, steeped in history, was built for the Nobel Prize for Literature recipient Henryk Sienkiewicz, author of the famous novel Quo Vadis, and later extended by his daughter. The fishing village of Ploumanach is located only 700 metres away and enchants its visitors with its typical Breton architecture. Brittany’s north coast, the so-called Côte de Granit Rose, is characterised by its fantastic reddish granite rock formations. Underwater cable and pipelines supply the island, Costaérès, with telephone, electricity and drinking water. The castle has central heating, two piers and façade lighting all around create the perfect setting for romantic island strolls at twilight.
(depending on season and number of guests)

The castle Costaérès is situated on a private island at the north coast of Brittany, not far from the beach at the harbour of Ploumanach. The seaside resort of Perros-Guirec ist approx. 4.5 km away and the airport of Lannion is about 10 km away.
The castle Costaéres was built in 1885 and completely renovated in the 1980s. On the ground floor is a large reception hall, two bedrooms, a fully fitted kitchen and a bathroom, as well as two terraces. Furthermore, a so-called “hall of knights” with fireplace, ideal for a midnight feast, is also to be found here.
A spiral staircase leads to the upper floor in the panorama room with fireplace and fantastic views of the “Sept Îles”. Amongst other features, a large terrace, perfect for sunbathing and barbeques, offers unforgettable views of the surroundings. Next to the panorama room through a granite arch is the TV room. 40 different channels are available via a parabolic antennae. A winding staircase leads from the T.V. room into a small tower room : a perfect spot for young lovers.
An additional staircase takes one up to the third floor, which consists of two bedrooms with showers. On the fourth floor is a further bedroom with washing facility and WC. A sauna with spacious shower room and bath tub plus a fitness room with three gym machines can all be found in the basement of the castle.
On the island itself, a heated swimming pool (10.5 x 4.5 m) with water massage outlets is quaintly embedded among the rock formations.
The kitchen is fully fitted to cater for the guests. However there is also the possibility to sample some French cuisine delicacies in the various restaurants on the mainland (not included in price). On request, we can arrange for a local chef to come in and prepare all meals.
Ploumanach offers a wonderful beach and several restaurants. The 4 km long Sentier des Douaniers, a coastguard’s path, leads from Ploumanach to Perros-Guirec and is popular for walks through the quirky landscape. Perros-Guirec is a famed seaside resort with many beaches, a promenade with several restaurants, a casino, a town hall adorned with many flowers, a yacht harbour as well as a wax museum.
There are ferry boat trips from Perros-Guirec to the neighbouring Sept Îles, seven islands famous for their abundance of sea birds. The Île aux Moines (Island of the Monks) with lighthouse and the ruins of a fortress is also well worth a visit. Prior reservations are recommended during peak season.
On request, guests can set sail on the island’s own Boston-Whaler (Ventura 180) for day trips or fishing trips on the Atlantic (skipper not included in price).
